- apiVersion is checked against latest version for each CRD in the selected release
- kind must exist in the selected release
- metadata.name must be valid DNS subdomain
- spec validated against CRD schema (including required fields)
- status optional, generates warnings if invalid
- Each CRD may have different required fields in spec
